HOW DID YOU FIRST GET IN TO HEALTHY FOOD ?

I’ve always been a healthy eater – grew up with excellent chefs in my family and always ate organic, home made and balanced food. I was mainly vegetarian my whole life before as well. I never liked the flavor and texture of meat, and my favorite food items have always been veggies. When I was living in Istanbul by the end of 2012, the real health food romance began. I was alone most of the time and what I did was to walk around on the streets of Istanbul and try the Turkish kitchen. Baba ganoush, hummus, grilled vegetables, tahini (sesame paste), dried figs, nuts and seeds and desserts made out of tahini and local honey. At the same time I was in a transection in my life. I was tired of not feeling energised and good in my own body. I did a lot of yoga and wanted to become a clean eater. I was so inspired by the Turkish kitchen and its amazing produce that I decided to become a sober gluten free-, sugar free vegan. I moved to New York later that spring and started posting my own recipes and shared the raw food restaurants I went to in the city on

instagram. I realised how fun it was – and also the response I got from people. I realized I wanted to inspire people to a healthy living so I decided to start my blog in April 2013!

DO YOU CREATE RECIPES YOUR – SELF OR COLLECT YUMMY ONES YOU COME A CROSS?

All the recipes on my blog are created by me. I personally don’t like following recipes at all because for me cooking is so much about feeling and creating out of the produce you have. I cook very seasonal and always use every single veggie in my fridge before it goes bad. That’s why some of my combinations are a little bit funny in some people’s eyes sometimes. For me that’s what makes it exciting though! I promise you, try to toss your almost over ripe banana in a vegetable curry stew and see what happens. Sometimes if I go to a restaurant that I really like, I usually ask for a menu to bring home and then I play with their menu. Add some stuff, change something or maybe use the same ingredients, but keep the dish raw. That’s a way for me to get inspired. I also find some inspiration on Instagram. But to be honest – I don’t even know if I could follow a recipe properly. For me cooking is like art – a way to express mys

VENICE BEACH

Walking around on the beach is something I try to do every week. A great way to exercise (damn your butt works hard by walking in the sand!) and also to get your healthy dose of vitamin D. Strolling by the ocean is also extremely meditative. Zoning out with the breeze and sound of the waves…

RAWVOLUTION

Rawvolution is one of my favorite raw food restaurants to go to for lunch. Located a block from the beach in Venice this is a perfect spot to fuel up after a day in the waves. Their almond butter truffles and maple fudge squares (pictured!) are extremely good. Rawvolution has a big variation on different types of raw food dishes;
Mexican, Italian, Japanese and American. All cuisines, but only in raw food form! Rawvolution’s raw nacho plate – with raw blue corn chips, walnut meat, cashew sour cream and “melted” nut cheese is unbelievable. Also pictured is the cauliflower rice sushi roll with marinated mushrooms, pickled cucumber and walnut crumble. To die for!
